What if you could find your favourite games, music, movies and TV shows, just with the sound of your voice? What if you could ask your TV to find “Aliens” and it did — instantly? What if you wanted to listen to Pearl Jam and all you had to do was tell your TV and it responded by playing your favourite Pearl Jam tunes? At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) on Monday, Microsoft solved the challenge of finding the entertainment you want, quickly and easily, with voice search with Bing on Xbox 360. Put bluntly, Xbox 360 will hold all your entertainment together in one place — and you’ll be able to find it with your voice.

Microsoft is also bringing YouTube to Xbox 360 (you do need to be a member of Xbox LIVE). You’ll get access to the latest videos, gaming tips and a universe of compelling content, but the best bit is you can control YouTube videos just by talking to your telly.

Did you miss “The Social Network” in the cinema? You’ll be able to tell your TV what you want to watch and choose from the multiple sources on Xbox 360 that may be offering it live or on demand. Want to play the latest videos from YouTube from the comfort of your sofa? Just tell your telly and it’ll jump to attention.

Of course, there are tons of new games coming for Xbox 360 and Kinect, but my personal favourite is Kinect: Star Wars, which allows players to follow the path of the light-saber-wielding Jedi, speed to victory in a pod race and dance to the music of the cantina band. Scrubbing off my dancing shoes in anticipation…

These are just the highlights, there’s loads more games and other exciting stuff coming to Xbox 360 and Kinect over the next twelve months.

Keynote speakers include Dave Thomas (Pragmatic Programmers) and Eelco Visser (Delft University of Technology).

The new Xbox 360 was announced during E3 yesterday, sporting a 250 GB hard drive, built-in Wi-Fi and, most importantly, ready for Kinect right out of the box (Kinect will be launched in November this year). Yeehah!
