I once had a very large orange. It was so big that I had to use two hands to eat it. Two hands. Much to my dismay, a quick search quickly found that it wasn’t the world’s largest orange, like I had screamed at the top of my lungs to anyone who would hear.
While my pedestal was knocked from underneath me, swiftly and brutally, some folks in South Wales have had far better luck. The guys from Sumo Science at Aardman spent a little time on Pendine Beach to create the world’s largest stop motion animation. The animation itself is a gripping tale of a fisherman taking his daily catch, but the awesome thing is that the largest scene stretches over 11,000 sq feet. That’s a whole lot of moving stuff around to take a shot of each frame. To add even more to the scale of amazing, the entire thing was shot on a phone.
On the other end of the scale, W+K and Aardman Animation shot another film 11 months ago that is officially the world’s smallest stop motion animation (again, shot on a phone). Dot makes use of a nifty little invention called the CellScope, which is usually used in medical situations to diagnose diseases in third world countries.
Check out both of these amazing little videos below. If you’re feeling particularly creative, why not grab your phone, hack it a little, and create your own little super-macro movie (the Windows Phone guys did it a little while ago). We’d love to see the results…
this is so cool! thanks for sharing
