Mango tools update for Windows Phone 7

Across this series there is a common theme – the 3 R’s – reduce, reduce, reduce. Make your application’s unique features obvious and focused and consider the end user’s experience of your application on a mobile device. Fierce reduction of chrome and visual noise is central to the Metro design philosophy behind the new Windows Phone 7′s user interface and so it should be within your applications.

An overview of what’s in Mango

The next release of windows Phone is codenamed Mango and will be released to consumers later this year. For developers, Mango is available now. Some of the highlights include:

  • IE9 – The power of a PC-browser plus support for HTML5 and hardware-accelerated graphics
  • Improved Live Tiles – Live Tiles are more dynamic and can hold more information—making it easier to get real-time info from apps without having to open them
  • Multitasking – Apps can now run in the background while preserving battery life and performance. You can also quickly switch between open apps
  • Search improvements – Local Scout Provides hyper-local search results and recommends nearby restaurants, shopping and activities in an easy to use guide powered by Bing
