Yesterday at Dundee Web standards I delivered a talk on IE9. The talk seemed to go well, but sadly, I have to report; I was upstaged by a robot that runs on Money.
The brain child of Tim Pryde a Product Design student from Dundee, the DON-8r moves when people put coins in a slot located in the robots back.
This project isn’t just cute, it also looks to solve a real world problem. Many people are reluctant to give their spare change to charity workers shaking their collection pots on Britain’s high-streets. Next time you’re in a coffee shop look around at the way they can be ignored as people put up a barrier to avoid the social pressure of donating. DON-8r seems to break down this barrier by making the event of donating playful.
I loved chatting to Tim, it’s always great to see bright minds solving real world problems in creative ways. Check out the video below to see the robot in action and head over to Tim’s website if you want more information.
If you want to try robotics or get creative with coding but don’t know where to start then there is a ton of great info over on http://channel9.msdn.com/coding4fun
