Making stories from social meeja

You only have to read the morning newspaper (it’s like a blog printed out on paper) to see how influential Twitter has become. Stories appear every day based on a single tweet or possibly a series of them.

Usually this is due to the number of celebrities not being careful about what they put online, or in more serious news the simple fact that people who tweet are more likely to be around the centre of a story than a journalist.

The new ‘citizen journalist’ is a big deal for those in the business of telling stories, and the new web app ‘Storify’ attempts to harness these tweets to create stories from people’s updates on unfolding events.

The service lets you pull in from various sites, so this is not just specific to Twitter. This helps create a diverse range of media, including text (Twitter, Facebook, RSS), images (Flickr, Google, URL) and video (YouTube).

Its a pretty cool toy and maybe something we will have to use ourselves. Check out the latest features stories on the site here: storify.com
