Vintage Computer Ads FTW

We chanced upon Bored Panda’s ’15 Vintage Ads That Used To Be Cool’ the other day whilst trawling the interwebs, which then sent us on a search for more. They seem to range from the sexist, to the embarrassingly dorky, to the rather awesome. We’ve gathered a selection of our favourites:

1. You Bet Your Sweet Telex Operator

I don’t know about you, but I personally think that ‘you bet your sweet Telex operator!’ should come back into common use. After all, nothing beats a bit of 1960s flavoured casual sexism.

2. The Hard Disk You’ve Been Waiting For

I don’t know about you, but I’ve certainly been waiting for a sweet 10MB my entire life. Especially for the cheap price of almost $3.5k. That’s only $350 a megabyte! Bargain!

3. A Computer Even I Can Pin Down

The problem with advertising computers is that up until recently, nerds have been out of fashion. How do you make computers cool? By getting professional wrestlers to endorse them, of course! Because nothing says reliable personal computer like ‘King Kong’ Bundy…

4. Next To My Software…

Who’s that devilishly handsome man? My Bill, what a large floppy disk you have there…

5. Two Bytes Are Better Than One

There were many attempts around the 80s and 90s to make computers sexy. Weird Science being one, and unintentionally creepy ads were another.
