The Geek Xmas Wishlist

Christmas is just around the corner, so it’s time to start thinking about what you want to get the geek in your life (or more importantly, leaving hints around the house for your Christmas list).

Personally, I’ve already had my Christmas list picked out since the 28th of December, 2009. Here’s 7 items that have made it on to my list…

1. The Silent Digital Trumpet

EZ TP Electronic Trumpet by Yamaha

I don’t actually play trumpet, nor did have any desire to learn until I saw this. This gadget teaches you how to play the trumpet without actually making all the god awful noise a real trumpet does. That and it totally looks like it’s from the future

2. Wi-fi Detecting Shirt

Wi-Fi Detecting T-Shirt

I always find it such a pain to actually take my phone or laptop out of my bag to check if the wi-fi signal is ok when I’m out and about. If only people had whether wi-fi signals were available, and the current strength of the signal emblazoned across their chest as if they were a walking geek billboard…

Oh, wait a minute…

3. A Lomo Camera

In case you haven’t heard, Lomography is the new black (just as zombies, pirates and ninjas were last year). That’s right, why have a state of the art digital camera, when you can use 40 year old technology that prints on to film.

film… What’s that again?

4. BBQ Grill Sword

To tell you the truth, I don’t think this one really needs an explanation. It’s a sword. That you can use on a bbq. Add in a zorro mask and the ensemble of awesome is complete.

5. The Complete Manual of Things That Might Kill You

As an antipodean, I come from a country where most animals can and will kill you. However, it’s always handy to brush up on potential threats to your life. As the blurb says, “We’re all going to die of something – why not choose an ailment that’s rare and hard to pronounce?”

6. Magic Wand – Programmable TV Remote

Any self respecting geek would just about kill someone to get their hands on a bit of geek kit like this. A wand? That double as a remote control for the tv? Pure genius.

7. Windows Phone 7

Ok, so we may be a little biased, but the new Windows Phone is a piece of kit that should be on any tech lovers wish list. We’ve been playing with ours for the last few weeks and we honestly can’t put it down. However, you might not have to wait until Christmas to get your hands on one
