We’re getting v.excited now about the .net Magazine Awards 2010 which we’ll be attending this Thursday night. There’s over 100 judges who have whittled down the entrants to the categories, but who do we think is going to win?
- Web App of the year
Mailchimp. Why? Because it’s free. It integrates with almost everything. They offer real time chat support. What’s not to love? Gets our vote. - Community Site of the Year
Ravelry. Why? Because it’s a free site for knitters and crocheters, how can it not win? It has cute animals on the home page and it has to beat Twitter and Facebook. - Best API Use
Flipboard. Why? Over to The Beebs: “When you see flipboard in action you can’t help but be impressed. Couple that with their amazing website (that I recently showed you how to recreate here) and you have a really incredible product that deserves some recognition.” - Interactive Site of the Year
Girl story. Why? Because The Beebs says so. “I showed you how you could achieve the technical effect they use here, but what I can’t do is explain how they created such a heart wrenching story. It’s Emotional design at it’s finest. If this doesn’t win I will eat Ryan Carson’s hat.” - Blog of the Year
Smashing Magazine. Why? Because it’s the one place you need to go to to get design inspiration and, if you’re a typography geek, there’s *a lot* of fonts over there for you. - Podcast of the Year
Sitepoint. Why? Because our friend and guest poster Craig Bucker writes for them. (I didn’t say these were going to be scientific reasons!) - Video Podcast of the Year
Railscast. Why? Because in the words of The Beebs, “Railscast do such a great job of explaining Ruby on rails. It’s a great place to learn, even if you are new to Ruby on Rails.” - Design Agency of the Year
Clearleft. Why? This is really subjective but I love most of their work. Plus, they share their learnings through awesome events such as dConstruct. - Innovation of the Year
Kinect. Why? What do you mean it’s not on the list? Explain to me the ‘innovation’ in Wikileaks and I’ll re-consider. - Web Personality of the Year
Ryan Carson, the cat in the hat. Why? Proving that you can run one of the best web conferences in the world whilst also not working on Fridays. - Viral Campaign of the Year
Look at my award. Look at your award. Now back to my award. Then at your award. Oh, you don’t have one. Old Spice gets it from us, that’s the way we roll. - Standards Champion
Andy Clarke. Why? His book Transcending CSS: The Fine Art Of Web Design is fantastic… his sites are fantastic. - Open Source Application of the Year
WordPress. Why? Because it’s WordPress dammit! The plugin ecosystem has more plugs than the national grid. Look, we’re using it here ourselves! Makes life very easy for content publishing. - Redesign of the Year
BBC News. Why? Because Flickr I actually find more than a little annoying in it’s new guise and i must admit that i didn’t even notice that YouTube had gone to the effort. Besides, the BBC are always redesigning so lets give their designer’s some recognition for their relentless redesigning. - Mobile site of the Year
Vimeo. Why? Yes Flickr do lovely content too, and yes Google have done some interesting things with mobile apps this year but I’m going for Vimeo because I love almost all the content that gets posted there. - Mobile App of the Year
Foursquare. Why? I love foursquare on iPhone but the new Windows Phone 7 app is stunning. Awesome idea and incredible implementations across platforms.
Disagree with any of the above?
How could you? But if you do, let us know in the comments below!

Ok I’m almost chaning my mind in regards to the Open Source Application of the Year… First I said Drupal, You guys are backing wordpress. But day in and day out i’m using modernizr and it’s making HTML5 development much easier.
